Accountabilibuddies…And No, I Didn’t Just Make That One Up

Food challenges.  The story of my life.  Let me tell you, it can totally SUCK being, shall we say, “vertically challenged”?  What I wouldn’t give to have just a few more inches in the height department so these pounds I carry were just a smitch more spread out.  But thanks to genetics – aka short parents – there’s not a whole lot I can do about it.  Short of taking out a circus stilt walker and making a run for it.

Seeing as Mother Nature and I have to agree to disagree on the whole “wish I was taller” thing, I have to wave the white flag on it and move on.  To what I stuff down my yap.  Just like the lovelies at Prairie Princess Runners and Rae at Darlin’ Rae.  We’ve all come to the not-so-surprising conclusion that in order to fight our ever tightening waistbands, we need to be accountable to someone other than ourselves.  Now I’m pretty good at keeping my eating under control.  I don’t eat oversized portions and I don’t fill up on a lot of crap.  One or two mini peanut butter cups at the end of the day are just enough to satisfy my sweet cravings.  I may or may not sneak in one or two Kisses after lunch if they’re around, but I don’t HAVE to have them or face possible chocolate meltdown.

My culinary hangup? PASTA.  Any shape, any size, served with anything on it, over it, under it.  In a bowl, on a plate, off the ground, or out of the Wonder Mutt’s dog bowl – I DON’T CARE. Give it to me.  GIVE IT ALL TO ME.  NOW.

This pasta obsession of mine has to be brought under control.  I have no idea where it’s even coming from, except I’m starting to think there’s a hidden pasta gene in my makeup somewhere that someone has conveniently forgotten to inform me of.  I’m convinced more than ever I was adopted.  Probably from a family with a lot of i’s and o’s in their last name.

Since it’s always easier to drag someone else kicking and screaming on your trip to make-me-stop-eating-all-the-food-everywhere-land, (because why go it alone?), I’m stringing together some linguini and reigning in this insanity with Lisa and Rae; my…wait for it…….ACOUNTABILIBUDDIES!   Together we shall overcome!  What, I don’t really know.  But we’ll do it.  Together. One for all and all for noodles. Oh damn.

  1. Oh man, pasta is tough for me too! I attempted to switch to whole wheat pasta once, and it’s TERRIBLE. Although, I guess it was successful in that I didn’t eat it, and therefore ate less pasta… My hangups are sweets and portion control for sure. I cleaned out my work candy drawer yesterday (yes, I had a candy drawer), so hopefully that helps!

    • Unfortunately we get all our pasta at an Italian deli…and their ww is DELISH! Ugh. My snack drawer is loaded with nuts, granola, and grape Propel powder. It’s the darn Grumpy mug on the desk that everyone ELSE keeps filling with candy that kills me! #darncoworkers

      • I have a coworker who bakes things like cupcakes and whoopie pies at least once a week, and they’re ALWAYS way better than anything I could make, so it’s hard to resist.

        I need to refill my snack drawer with better options…

  2. I’m definitely going to try joining in on this. I fully intend to try and adapt the I’m 100% of the time 80% Paleo diet! I can’t give up things like pizza and pepperoni pinwheels (my best friends) and my husband doesn’t cook, so when I come home beyond exhausted from work and too tired to cook, he “makes’ dinner by ordering out. Point is, I will try and make some changes where I can (while still trying to fatten up my husband with the freakish metabolism…bastard!)

    FYI, as a tall person, it just makes me twice everyone’s size both horizontally and vertically…it’s not all it’s cracked up to be 😦

    • We just got the mac daddy of grills (Big Green Egg), so the hubby is chomping at the bit to fire it up. I’m hoping this will lead to much less pasta and much more grilled fish and veggies. Kind of challenging when you’re a vegetarian and the hubby slaps a big, fat, juicy steak on the grill. Of course, he’s pretty good at speed dialing our fave pizza place, lol! 🙂

  3. Oh pasta…such a beautiful yet horrible food. I try and limit my exposure to special occasions or when I have a migraine and need comfort food.

    And I agree with Rae–excellent graphic!

    Kellie–i try and do 80% paleo too…and i find it is much more feasible to do without feeling like you are being deprived and forced to white knuckle throughout social engagements!

  4. Catching up on my blog reading since I have been traveling this week. Chocolate is one of my all time favorites and I am vertically challenged too. I have never hated my height but a few extra inches would sure be nice!
